kids were here

If you love photographing your smalls, then you probably know about the wonderful collaborative conception that is Kids Were Here, created by uber talent Ketti Phillips of Ketti Photography. For someone who takes an obscene amount of photos of her kids, this could not be MORE up my alley.
"These still life images serve as a daily reminder that my days are awash in chaos, whimsy, laughter and laundry (sometimes all at once). They capture toys and spills and puddles and piles. Sentimental, solitary moments of childhood ephemera. A gentle prodding to live in the now and stop looking toward the 'then'. And though sometimes I pray for clean and quiet and still, I know all too well it will come. And I will yearn for tiny shrieks of laughter in my bedroom. For toys and loveys strewn about. For signs of a daily life well lived. For traces of my babies who once were. For reminders that Kids Were Here - and they were life and light and love." - Stephanie Beaty
To quote Kids Were Here's new Facebook page, '25 photographers share their unconventional, yet universal perspective on what life with children looks like'. A perfect description.

These talented souls are encouraging us to photograph evidence that Kids Were Here, sharing your images, and in turn, your stories. For the past week I have been trying to remember to photograph this evidence. It is amazing that there can be so much beauty in images which are devoid of people.

  1. They're beautiful photos! And it is a lovely concept. I love a house where you can just tell that "kids live here" - who wants a sterile clean and orderly house, anyway?
These are the photos your kids will love to see, once they are all grown up.
I had to chuckle at many of the all too familiar scenes - I get the grape stems in the exact same Ikea bowls every. single. day!!

  2. I did have a giggle to myself whist looking through these photos, looks very much like the 'kids where there'.
The 'writing' next to a list and the messy windows, ugh!
I wouldn't have it any other way.

  7. I love what you noticed! The banana, the chewed up straw, the crayon on the wall...
It's funny to come across these mini disasters and after a split second of getting mad, thinking "Oh wait! Let me grab my camera!"

  9. I love this, so good. I've started documenting a few too. It will be good to look back on when they're a bit older. Or to show them when they are parents to little ones. Haha xx
